Applications Open Spring 2026

Manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind are the aims of our fraternity. In keeping with the organization’s principles, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter, annually awards several scholarships to eligible senior high school students enrolled in District of Columbia public schools. Applications will be available at all District of Columbia High Schools Spring 2026.

Who is Nathaniel Allison Murray?

Nathaniel Allison Murray (1884–1959) was one of the seven visionary founders of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. A dedicated scholar of the College of Agriculture at Cornell University, Murray utilized his keen intellect and organizational skills to lay the foundational structure of the fraternity. He served as the organization's Historian and helped draft the constitution and design the first membership certificate.

Following his graduation, Murray committed his life to education, spending 35 years as a respected teacher and department head at Armstrong Vocational High School in his native Washington, D.C. His legacy is one of quiet, unwavering dedication to brotherhood, academic excellence, and civic duty.

This scholarship is dedicated to supporting students who embody his values of integrity, service, and academic pursuit.
